Robbery at off licence
Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at an off licence.
The incident happened at around 3.15pm yesterday (Thursday, June 18) at Newington Off Licence, in Newington Street.
The 48-year-old victim, who is a member of staff at the store, was approached by a man who demanded money, before threatening her with a knife.
The suspect then made off from the scene on foot towards Shaftsbury Avenue and then Melton Road. Nothing was taken in the incident and no-one was injured.
The suspect is described as black, between 18 and 21-years-old, between 5’10” and 6’ tall, of slim build. He was wearing a black hooded top pulled round his face, gloves and jeans.
Detective Constable George Fraser, who is investigating the incident said: “We believe there were a number of people in the area of the shop at the time of the incident that would have seen the suspect making off. Did you see where he went next? If so we would ask you to contact us.
“We are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area prior to the incident and saw someone matching this description acting suspiciously. Any information could help with our enquiries.”
