6-year-old girl bitten by dog in Melton
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 6-year-old girl was bitten by a dog in Melton Mowbray.
The incident occurred at about 11.30am on Sunday April 19, 2009 while the girl and her father were watching a rugby match taking place at King Edward School on Burton Road.
The girl was bitten on the arm and body and taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment. She has since been discharged.
A 19-year-old man has been reported for offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
The dog, Japanese Akita, has been recovered by police pending the completion of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
PC Chris Pearson, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are eager to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident; the events leading up to it, or perhaps saw the dog prior to the incident.
"Perhaps you were also watching the rugby match, or walking in the grounds of the school. If so, please contact us with any information even if it seems small as it could still be valuable to our enquiries."
