Man robbed of mobile phone on Belgrave Gate

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a 17-year-old man was robbed on Belgrave Gate.

The incident happened around 2.40pm on Wednesday March 25, 2009 as the victim was walking along Belgrave Gate towards the city centre and when he neared the junction with Melton Street when he was approached by two youths who demanded money from him.

One of the youths assaulted the victim before threatening him. The victim handed the small amount of money he had and his Sony Ericsson W88ci mobile phone and the robbers ran off.

The victim received a minor injury during this incident which did not require medical treatment.

The first suspect is described as black, around 17-years-old, about 5'9" tall, of slim build with dark hair and a moustache.  He was wearing a blue and white waterproof jacket.

The second suspect is described as being of Asian appearance, around 17-years-old, about 5'6" tall, of medium build with black hair. He was dark grey jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.

PC Dave Adams, who is investigating the incident, said: "The victim has obviously been left quite shaken by this incident and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the robbery to get in touch.

"Any information you can give us, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital to the investigation. Did you see two youths matching this description in the area? If you have any information in relation to this incident, please get in touch."
