Robbery at jewellers on Melton Road
Police are appealing for witnesses after the robbery at a Jewellers on Melton Road.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Wednesday February 18, when four men gained entry to G. Naran Jewellers.
The owner of the shop opened the door when he saw a man standing outside. Once the door had been opened and the man entered the shop he let in three other men.
The three men used weapons to smash open the glass cabinets and take the jewellery from inside before making their escape in a silver Audi, registration FAR1 11S. The car was parked on Doncaster Road and then drove off in the direction of Catherine Road. This vehicle was later found abandoned around a mile away on Martins Street, where the suspects were then seen to drive away in a black BMW, parked on Forest Road.
The first man was described as being of Asian appearance, around 5' 9" tall with stubble and of average build. He was said to be wearing dark grey tracksuit bottoms, dark trainers and a dark hooded jacket with the number "85" written in white on the back. He was also wearing a multi-striped woolly hat with tassels on.
The three other men were said to of had their faces covered with scarves and one with a balaclava.
Detective Constable Vikki Cotterill, who is investigating the incident, said: "Melton Road is a very busy area and at this time many people would have been travelling home from work. We are urging anyone who was in the area at the time to think back and contact us if they seen anything suspicious.
"Have you seen anyone driving the silver Audi described? Did you see a group of men driving or getting into a silver Audi or a black BMW in the area? Have you since been approached by anyone attempting to sell you any jewellery branded with the shop name? If so we want you to contact us, no matter how insignificant the information may seem, it may hep us with our investigation.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4448 Vikki Cotterill on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4448. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
