25 November 2008 Hear about project to tackle speeding

A project designed to help curb speeding drivers is the focus of a meeting in Kirby Bellars next week.

At Melton West Area Forum, people can hear about the Community Speed Watch initiative and how they can get involved.

The meeting, being held next Thursday (4th December), offers residents the chance to hear an update from NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland about their review of community health services.

Local residents will also be able to to use voting handsets to help influence spending on top priorities.

Community forums are a great opportunity for people to learn about bigger issues affecting the area, get answers to queries and influence local decision-making.

Anyone with a query about a local issue can also go along and and put it to officers from a range of agencies in a 'Question Time' session.

Joe Orson, Chair of the Forum, said: "This is an opportunity for people to meet senior officers from local authorities, the NHS, the police and other organisations.

"It is a chance to ask questions and find out the latest on local issues and I'm looking forward to welcoming Melton West residents to Kirby Bellars Village Hall."

The meeting will be at 7pm on Thursday, 4th December at Kirby Bellars Village Hall, Main Street, Kirby Bellars, LE14 2EA and is open to people living in and around Asfordby, Nether Broughton, Old Dalby, Kirby Bellars, Frisby, Hoby with Rotherby, Ab Kettleby, Burton, Dalby, Gaddesby, Grimston, Twyford, Thorpe, Somerby, Knossington and Cold Overton.

For more information about this forum please contact Richard Downing on 0116 305 5823 or go to www.leicestershireforums.org

Notes:

Community Forums are part of a new county-wide initiative involving Leicestershire County Council, District and Borough Councils, NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Together partners.

There are 27 forums across Leicestershire which bring together elected representatives across all tiers of local government - County, District and Borough and Parish, together with a range of other community representatives.

Although they do not have formal decision-making powers, forums are important bodies of influence - there is a 'duty to respond' to actions recommended.
