Information on Melton

Part of the M1 motorway remains closed tonight following a serious collision.

Police received reports of a collision involving five lorries at 2.18pm today (July 15, 2008) near to junction 19a of the M1 northbound.

One person has died in the collision.  No further casualty details are available at this stage.

The northbound carriageway from junction 18 remains closed whilst emergency services deal with the incident.  It is not known how long this stretch of the motorway will remain closed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and would ask anyone who has any information to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, or Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
