Information on Melton

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault outside the Welby Pub on Nottingham Road, Melton Mowbray.

Officers were called at around 6:30pm on Wednesday June 11 after reports of a 41-year-old man sustaining serious head injuries after being assaulted with a blunt weapon.

The man was found on a grassy bank next to the pub and was taken to the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, where he received stitches. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Detective constable Chris Perry said: "We've already spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time of the assault and we are progressing with the investigation.

"We need to speak to anyone else who has any information about this incident or the person responsible.

"Did you see anyone running up the field near the Welby pub on Wednesday June 11 at around 6:30pm? Any information you have could be vital."
